The capstone project is based on a subject that is important to me and needed within the community, in a building chosen within the area. The Outma Sqilx’w Cultural School with a square footage of 19 000 was chosen because of its welcoming exterior and location in Penticton BC. Restoring only the interior to accommodate the subject chosen.
Golden Lotus is a depression center for youth. Needed within the community of the Okanogan since 35% of people within the area struggle with depression. Based on studies 1 in every 5 Canadians suffer from mental illness and based of a survey I did 99% of the people around me know someone who is depressed.
The parti is the elements of the 7 chakras and the body in meditation. When your chakras are open your energy can run through you freely. Golden Lotus is a freely used space by those who need to regain their good energy. Harmony exists within body, mind and spirit when all the chakras are opened.
Trust, creativity and wisdom are patient rooms because these are all inner qualities. Love and healing for the kitchen which is where people come together. Communication and awareness are the dining room because people bond over meals. Spirituality is the individual spaces where you can get in touch with your inner self.
